For the SAG, it corresponds to material of animal or plant origin that could contain pests and diseases not present in Chile, and in the case of Customs, to merchandise and currency that exceed the traveler's allowance and are therefore subject to the payment of taxes. The National Director of Customs, José Ignacio Palma, indicated: "It is a New step we take on the path of digitalization of our operations. We will move forward by gradually implementing it in border controls, taking precautions to accompany travelers in this process, at a relevant time, when passenger traffic across our borders begins to recover.”

Meanwhile, the Director SAG National, Horacio Bórquez, he stressed “la Implementation of the Digital Affidavit at the Iquique Airport, as it seeks to provide new tools to passengers entering Chile within a modernization process promoted by the Government. This system has been operating for almost a year and with great success at the Santiago Airport, because in addition, in the context of the pandemic, it is much safer, since the mandatory sworn statement is received from travelers, but without any type of contact.".

In turn, the Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Cristian Molina, noted that “it is a relevant initiative in the region and its implementation begins at Diego Aracena Airport. Our services already have the experience of a first period of application at Merino Benítez Airport in Santiago, so we hope that the transition between paper and digital declaration will be fluid and that the public will quickly adapt.”
