Call for proposals for electric vehicle imports in 2025

As of today, March 17, 2025, the Ministry of Economy, through the National Directorate of Industrial Policy Management, has opened the call to request the allocation of the import quota of up to 50.000 electric vehicles for the year 2025. This measure is part of the recent Decree No. 49/25 and Resolution No. 29/25 of the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce.

In this way, the Provision 30/2025 establishes the following detail:

La distribution of the import quota, which will be divided into two categories:

  • 25.000 units for terminal companies based and producing in Argentina.
  • 25.000 units for individuals or legal entities that do not meet the conditions of the first category.

Type of Vehicles HitThe call is intended for the importation of new passenger and light commercial vehicles classified under the tariff items of the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM) detailed in Annex I of Decree No. 49/25. The vehicles must have specific technologies defined in Articles 1 and 2 of the decree and Article 4 of Resolution No. 29/25. The maximum FOB unit value of vehicles must not exceed USD 16.000.

Allocation criteria. Applications will be sorted according to:

  1. Estimated month of registration or officialization of the merchandise.
  2. Retail list price in US dollars, with lowest bids prioritized.

In the case of overlapping applications, priority will be given to the one with the lowest declared retail price.

Deadlines and submission methodsInterested parties must submit their applications through the "Remote Procedures" (TAD) platform within 10 business days of the publication of the provision in the Official Gazette. In addition, the documentation must include a sworn statement of compliance with current regulations, including Law No. 24.449 on Traffic and Road Safety.

Validity and control. LThe National Directorate of Industrial Policy Management will verify the assigned imports and may request additional documentation from ARCA. Successful bidders may waive the quota without penalty within 20 business days; after that period, noncompliance may result in sanctions pursuant to Resolution No. 29/25.

The measure takes effect immediately, and, as indicated, the call for applications to allocate the import quota remains open.
