Within the framework of preventive measures to avoid the entry of African Swine Fever (ASF) into the country, the National Service for Food Health and Quality (Senasa) declared a health alert through its Resolution 561 / 2021.
The measure – that isIt came into force on Wednesday (10.11.2021) after being published in the Official GazetteIn Official, with the signature of the president of Senasa, Carlos Paz – allows to have the necessary tools to implement the strengthening and prevention measures already existing throughout the country, to reduce the risk of entry, exposure and dissemination of PPA in susceptible hosts, both Domestic and wild pigs and wild boars.
The declaration of the preventive health alert is in line with the resolutionlto at the regional level in eThe Permanent Veterinary Committee of the Southern Cone (CVP) – of which Senasa is a member together with its counterparts from Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia- and at the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) of the Americas. Countries in the region are establishing these preventive health alerts which, among other things, allow budget items to be quickly available in case it is necessary to deal with any type of emergency.
ASF is not a zoonotic disease, meaning it is not transmitted to humans, but it causes health and economic damage to pig herds, so it is important to apply preventive measures to avoid the entry of the disease and safeguard the health condition of the pig production sector, which is free of it.
The Resolution establishes sanctions for those who fail to comply with or violate the measures adopted.
Keeping the swine sector free of disease is a shared responsibility that benefits the entire country.
