Argentina updates its phytosanitary regulatory framework to align with international standards

The Argentine State, through the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (SENASA), approved a new technical and regulatory framework for the registration of phytosanitary products, through Resolution 458/2025.

The measure, published today (26.06.2025) responds to the need to modernize and harmonize national regulations with the main international standards, especially those promoted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Among its central objectives are: Strengthen health and environmental safety, facilitate access to more efficient technologies, and make agrochemical evaluation processes transparent..

The resolution repeals the previous rule (Resolution 694/2024) and establishes a comprehensive regime composed of eight technical annexes, which detail the requirements and procedures applicable to new active substances, the recognition of international equivalences, the labeling conditions under the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), and the toxicological and ecotoxicological criteria that must be met.

Main aspects

(I.e.Recognition of international equivalences: Validation of active substances already approved in countries or blocs with recognized regulations is enabled, allowing for streamlining registrations without compromising safety guarantees.

◾Mandatory incorporation of GHS: International criteria are adopted for the labeling of chemical products, with clear and uniform warnings.

(I.e.Toxicological and ecotoxicological update: Scientific information validated by professionals registered with SENASA is required.

(I.e.Comprehensive scope: The regulations apply to both new applications and pending applications, promoting equal conditions for all operators.

"With this measure, Senasa accompanies the evolution of the agricultural sector with clear, modern rules aligned with the current challenges of production.n”, the organization stated.

The resolution will enter into valid for ninety (90) days of its publication in the Official Gazette.

It is suggested to read in detail the standard and its annexes, in order to ensure its correct implementation.
