Peña: “We are committed to stability”

Chief of Staff Marcos Peña highlighted this Tuesday (18.9.2018) the current administration's commitment to stability and high investment in social protection.

“We are convinced that macroeconomic stability is a prerequisite for social equity and this has not been the case historically”, Peña said. “Our problems are self-inflicted and the good thing about that is that we can solve them,” he added.

Crisis

Secondly, “it is the first time in our history that we are facing an economic crisis and that we are going to go through it with the same rules with which we entered it. Having a Institutional framework is key to long-term development and our integration with the world"He said.

Social protection

Thirdly, “We are doing it (going through the crisis) with a very high investment in social protection"We do this by taking care of the most vulnerable in society, with a significant investment in social development," he said. "We believe we are on the right path to resolve this in a structural way with a very transparent and honest approach," he added.

Gender

On the other hand, Peña said that the relevance of the gender perspective is “obvious” and that it will be increasingly incorporated into Argentine society.Women's representation in institutions remains low but the debate on the gender agenda is moving forward" and recalled that Congress debated "even controversial issues," referring to the legalization of abortion.

Integrated space

Peña participated in a space made up of the executive directors of CIPPEC and CARI, Julia Pomares and José María Lladós, respectively, and by researchers Margo Thomas (Chatham House) and Colin Bradford (Brookings Institution) and Argentine economist Nora Lustig (Tulane University).

T20 Objective

CARI and CIPPEC, entities that chair the T20, delivered this Monday to the Argentine presidency of the G20 a statement with concrete proposals of policies to address major global challenges.

The objective is contribute to the final communiqué of the G20 Leaders' Summit, which will take place on December 1, with recommendations based on research.
