OMA successfully concluded the meeting of its Policy Commission

The World Customs Organization (WCO) concluded its 85th Policy Commission session on Wednesday by reviewing various technical and governance issues within the Organization, as a means of monitoring progress on overall objectives. Heads of delegation participated in the meeting in Brussels, Belgium, in a hybrid manner, with participants joining remotely from all regions.

DDuring the three-day meeting (13-15 December), the WCO working body discussed a wide range of Topics, including the report of the Private Sector Advisory Group; the report on the status of Performance Measurement, Gender Equality and Diversity; and the report of the Audit Committee linked to the status of risks.

Delegates also discussed the prioritization of the WCO, the Strategic Plan 2022-2025, and issues of modernization, electoral processes and financing. In this regard, the Regional Vice-Presidency presented the position of the Americas and the Caribbean.

According to official information, delegates expressed their interest in further exploring the role of Customs in ozone protection and climate change mitigation and also reaffirmed their commitment to organizational improvement and greater participation.

At the close of the meeting, the Secretary General of the WCO presented a forward-looking report on the Organization's activities and the future development of a comprehensive data strategy, in line with the identified focus areas. In parallel, he announced that “scaling up the digital transformation of customs, embracing a data culture and building a customs data ecosystem” will be the theme of the global customs community for 2022.
