The first regional cybersecurity workshop for the Americas and the Caribbean concluded with great success

In order to strengthen the capabilities of customs, the First Regional Cybersecurity Workshop for the Americas and the Caribbean was held with great success. A total of 27 participants attended the event, which was held in a hybrid format, the Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

The virtual activity was organized by the Regional Vice-Presidency of the WCO for the Americas and the Caribbean, by SUNAT of the Peru, in coordination with the Customs and Border Protection Office of United States (CBP, for its acronym in English).

Customs administrations have increased their use of automated systems to improve trade facilitation and the activity served to support their efforts. The workshop presenter, Customs and Border Protection Chief Information Security Officer Scott Davis, highlighted the role of Customs in protecting the integrity of data and promoting safe and legitimate foreign trade through digital transformation.

The Workshop concluded successfully with positive feedback from participants who expressed their willingness to collaborate on further steps. In the words of AC Debbie Seguín, Assistant Commissioner for International Affairs, U.S. Customs and Border ProtectionThey summarise: “We look forward to future collaboration to enhance cybersecurity resilience and capacity in the region.”

Thus, the Regional Vice-Presidency of the WCO affirms its commitment to cooperate with the
members to develop a more digital, competitive, integrated and inclusive customs region.
