Argentina updates fertilizer regulations

-

The National Government, through the Decree 101 / 2025, modified the regulations of Law No. 20.466, which regulates the control of the production, import, export, possession, fractionation, distribution and sale of fertilizers and amendments in Argentina.

The standard, published this Monday (17.02.2025/XNUMX/XNUMX), seeks to guarantee the quality of fertilizers for the benefit of the user, simplify operator registration and eliminate expiration dates. It also facilitates the import of certified products in high surveillance countries., which according to the annex include Australia, United States, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Brazil, European Union and Israel. This will avoid duplication of procedures and promote greater commercial integration, according to the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the authority in charge of enforcing the law regulated in 1973 by Decree No. 4.830.

En security matters, The Secretariat stressed that "a prior notification will be sufficient for the transport of fertilizers containing ammonium nitrate in large volumes, a key requirement to minimize risks associated with their handling. Before this regulation, the procedures required prior authorization from SENASA, whose approval could take up to 15 days."

The update is part of the State Modernization Plan (Decree No. 434/16), which promotes the digitalization and simplification of administrative procedures. In this context, the new regulations introduce modifications to the requirements for the production, distribution, fractionation, import, export and marketing of fertilizers and amendments.

In addition, Decree 101/2025 ratifies the jurisdiction of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries as the Enforcement Authority of Law No. 20.466, with powers to coordinate agricultural production, quality and health policies, as well as to supervise the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA).

The rule comes into force immediately.
