The National Communications Agency (ENACOM) made official the Elimination of roaming charges between Argentina and Chile, so the use of mobile telephony, including voice, messaging and mobile data services, when crossing the borders of both countries will be billed at the local price.

He did it through the Resolution 927 / 2020 published this Monday (31.08.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) in the Official Gazette, which established the International Roaming Regime between Argentina and Chile.

President Alberto Fernández held a video call last Saturday with his Chilean counterpart, Sebastián Piñera, in which they celebrated the elimination of roaming charges between the two countries.

"This is like integrating territory definitively because an Argentine who speaks in Chile is the same as a Chilean who speaks in Argentina and that makes me very happy," said the head of state to his Chilean counterpart.

For his part, Piñera highlighted the measure as "great news for Argentines and Chileans" and considered that "in essence we will be separated by the mountain range but united by technology."

Enacom specified that the identification will be carried out, as until now, through the SIM card, and, thus, the user will be able to connect with an operator of another network paying the price of his country, that is to say that The cost of calls and data consumption will not incur extra charges.

According to the provisions, this regulation defines a period for the use of said benefit, which is 90 consecutive days or 120 discontinuous days in the same year.

On the other hand, operators that provide service to users when they are in the neighbouring country must ensure the same quality of service and coverage as their national users.

This measure has its origin in the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between Argentina and Chile, which was incorporated by Law 27.497.

The details were agreed upon by the Bilateral Administrative Commission of the Trade Agreement between the two countries, in the framework of a session in which various mechanisms to facilitate trade between the two countries were discussed, and last Friday the board of directors of Enacom gave it final approval.
